Works on Paper

For the artist working on paper offers special challenges and rewards. Paper is dynamic and has a mind of its own. If the artist takes this into account and works with and not against it, the surface it becomes integral part of the image

Watercolour and paper have a natural affinity with the surface shining through the translucent nature of the paint. Materials used are not confined to watercolour but can include any drawing media, collage, printing and water based materials such as ink and dye. The choices of techniques are bounded only by the artist’s imagination and ingenuity. These artworks are labelled ‘mixed media”

Having spent many years investigating the techniques of watercolour I followed a natural progression into mixed media and now, unless I wish to employ the special characteristics that watercolour offers, I find that my works on paper are usually mixed media.
